Two Years

Chicago 2 Year Anniversary Trip (June 2013) 001

Handsome and I were suppose to go to the Mumford and Sons concert for our anniversary but it was canceled and so within 24 hours we scheduled a whole new adventure.

We jumped on the Metra and headed into the city.

Turns out it was way colder than it was suppose to be so we ran in to a store to get an extra layer for me.

Then we were at our food tour of old town.

It was really cool.

Of course I was that person that wanted to tell everyone it was our anniversary. After all this is the first anniversary we spent together in the same country.

Kent here was our fearless leader on the tour. Learning lots of different things about all the places we went to. That is a cocoa bean? Shell? Thing? Apparently it’s been used for years as a visual so it’s actually shrunk.

This is what we got to try at the Fudge Pot. I almost died. It was so good. It was a chocolate covered butter toffee. It was so good and there were extra pieces. I might have given myself a tiny tummy ache.

Then I went to an oil and vinegar place. You had to try it “like the culinary students do” where you just take shots of oil and vinegar. It was an experience and totally one I wouldn’t have done all on my own.

I was really excited about the vinegar.

It’s a thing. Don’t ask. But I might have drank pickle juice when I was a kid because I loved vinegar so much.

It’s a problem is more like.

Then I had a breakdown at the spice store because I wanted to try everything.

Then there was this guy. His name is Tom. He owns the spice store with his wife. He totally has a passion for spices. It’s really really awesome to be around people who you can feel the passion vibrating off of them.

Plus. Look at that shirt.

Handsome really liked the last stop which was a polish style bakery and cafe. They had macaroons which were really good and then they had Pierogis. I had a few of these at my polish friends houses growing up so they weren’t completely new to me.

Handsome loved them.

Couldn’t get enough of them.

And the food tour was just the beginning of our day!

Next we headed to the SHEDD.

This is where I was crazy.

I love the Shedd.

I went up to the ticket office and said, “I want to see the otters.” I love the otters.Chicago 2 Year Anniversary Trip (June 2013) 065

I camped in front of their space for quite a while. I was not giving up for anyone.

It was wonderful. We saw a fish with gills and lungs. Darwin would have had a field day. I kept walking around talking about how it was “science.”

Then what we don’t have pictures of because we ate it all too fast was we went to the Perennial Virant for dinner. It probably was the nicest place we’ve ever been. Well maybe not ever but it was a really nice place where we could have dinner and gaze into each other’s eyes.

It was such a great anniversary and we planned it on a whim and before we knew it we were driving home.

-I’m so looking forward to more years and I’m so happy.
