Gratitude

EIU Women's Studies Awards Night 006

This semester I won Women’s Studies Student of the Year.

I was beyond happy. I worked really hard on a lot of my work through Women’s Studies and I was so happy to be recognized. I was grateful beyond belief.

I respect the women’s studies program at Eastern. I have had some of the most intelligent, compassionate, and passionate professors through the women’s studies program. I have had professors encourage me to apply for grants, attend conferences, apply to present at conferences, and work at accomplishing my goals.

I have great mentors through the women’s studies program. I have had life changing experiences because of my studies. I really, honestly, couldn’t be more grateful.

I was asked to read my poetry at the awards ceremony. I read a mix of poems and once again talked about how much my research has been shaped by my education and experiences.

I owe a lot to this woman. She was my first poetry professor and my mentor as I attempted to get into graduate school. She was my editor and pushed me to be better and work harder. I am grateful to have met this woman and for her to have invested so much in my success.

Then there is this woman. She was my first women’s studies professor and is the program coordinator for women’s studies. She was always there to help mentor in where to go next with women’s studies and talk through issues that may arrise while learning complicated feminist concepts. I cannot express my gratitude for this woman who helped me apply to a national conference as an undergraduate, apply for grad school, and chase after my dreams.

I am so stinking grateful to know these women and have them in my life.
