What I’ve Been Up To

This is exactly 600 signed copies of a petition for my university.

That is co-presidents of the Women’s Empowerment League rocking change at Eastern Illinois University.

What I’ve been doing lately is a lot of social activism. I did so much of it actually that I decided to give up teaching to continue being a more active person advocating for the rights of others.

I, with these two amazing women (and others not pictured!), petitioned for better reporting practices on my campus.

It’s been exhausting. We’ve been on highs (pictured) and we’ve been on lows. We have had to fight the circle of meetings. The rhetoric talk around getting shit done. We’ve had to play nice and burn some bridges. We had to ask hard questions and bite our tongue.

It hasn’t been for nothing, but it isn’t the change we pictured on this campus. It’s a start. It was a great start to the nitty-gritty of getting work done, petitioning, and activism.

I can’t wait to see what this group is going to do when I am gone.
